DVT, a global digital transformation services and AI solutions provider, recently hosted Stephen Morrell, CEO of leading artificial intelligence company Elaitra, for a DVT Insights Webinar titled "The Gen AI Playbook that Delivers Real ROI." Morrell, recognised internationally for his expertise in practical AI solutions, offered strategic guidance on leveraging generative AI technologies to deliver measurable business value.
During the webinar, Morrell separated hype from reality on Gen AI, clearly distinguishing between mere enthusiasm and genuine business potential. Drawing from his extensive experience in both medical and financial domains, Morrell emphasised the importance of focusing on tangible outcomes rather than speculative promises.
"There's extraordinary potential with generative AI," says Morrell, "but businesses need a structured approach—a clear playbook—to translate this technology into measurable returns."
Morrell highlighted several real-world examples, including Elaitra's AI-driven healthcare projects aimed at improving early cancer detection through advanced imaging techniques. Elaitra's award-winning AI models have notably outperformed Google DeepMind in detecting cancer and were recently recognised as winners of the AI DREAMS competition and honoured in Twilio's 2024 AI Startup Searchlight.
He shared compelling results from Elaitra's recent pilot project with a major UK healthcare provider, showcasing how conversational AI dramatically increased health screening compliance rates while significantly reducing operational costs. Elaitra’s pilot added £19 million in revenue projections and enabled over 180,000 AI-driven conversations, delivering substantial business value.
"Our pilot demonstrates a potential ROI that exceeded expectations, earning millions while simultaneously improving patient outcomes," explains Morrell. "This wasn't just technology for technology's sake; it directly addressed critical business and patient-care needs."
Throughout the webinar, Morrell stressed the importance of incremental implementation—deploying AI in a managed, responsible manner. He advised executives to start with clearly defined use cases, pilot quickly, and scale thoughtfully, mitigating risks such as data security, human factors, and regulatory compliance. Morrell particularly highlighted that around 70% of AI initiatives fail primarily due to human resistance and inadequate planning rather than technical limitations, emphasising the critical need to proactively address these factors.
"AI initiatives fail most often due to human resistance or inadequate planning, not technical shortcomings," Morrell warns. "Executives should address these factors upfront to ensure successful adoption."
Karl Fischer, Executive Head for Strategic Digital Services at DVT, notes the importance of Morrell's practical insights: "Stephen's approach aligns perfectly with our own philosophy at DVT—technology must serve clear business goals. His insights provide a valuable roadmap for CTOs, CIOs and technology leaders navigating the complex AI landscape."
Elaitra AI aims to further increase cancer screening compliance from 60-70%, potentially saving between 50,000 and 100,000 lives annually by 2030. Morrell urged executives not to underestimate AI's transformative potential and to embed AI strategies into their broader digital transformation agendas immediately.
