Leading software and services company DVT has implemented enhanced reporting capabilities for its test automation framework at its Cape Town-based Global Testing Centre (GTC).

The move sees DVT GTC shift from standard HTML-based reporting to Extent Reports, an open source HTML reporting API that allows seamless integration with Junit and Selenium.

Ferdinand Nell, competency lead at DVT GTC, says Extent Reports was designed to be highly customisable, and can be tailored to suit various HTML test reporting requirements and tools.

"Extent Reports supports a merged report function where a single HTML file is updated for various test executions, combining results into a single report for historical reference and trend analysis," Nell explains.

Some notable new features include:
  • Customisable HTML structure – users can embed HTML into the basic report structure to customise various cosmetic and functional aspects, such as adding a data table to results;
  • Embedded screenshots – screenshots can be embedded into HTML as part of the test artefacts, resulting in a self-contained HTML file;
  • Historical reporting and trend analysis;
  • Dynamic dashboard;
  • Dynamic filtering;
  • Java and .NET reporting; and
  • Responsive layout.

"The new reporting component allows us to combine narrative logs and screenshots into one report," says DVT GTC head Mario Matthee, "which allows us to provide a better analytics service to our clients.

"DVT GTC has experienced exceptional growth in 2015," he adds. "We are looking forward to a very exciting 2016, with more growth expectations and the focus to expand our offering into overseas markets."

DVT GTC's managed outsourced test automation services have already attracted interest from several companies in the UK, Netherlands and the US.
